The Etiquette of Hat Wearing

Traditionally a lady always placed her hat on the right hand side of her head.

This tradition stems back to days when when gentlemen wore swords on the left hand side. The sword was drawn with the right hand, so the lady would have been on the opposite side to avoid bumping into the sword.

The gentlemen walked on the left of the lady, so by placing the hat on the right side of the head, kept her face visable to her escort.

Fashion is definitely a lot more fluid these days, hats are worn dependant on personal choice and hairstyle.
